"I DO!"...Part 2
***BE SURE THAT YOU HAVE READ KYLE’S BLOG FIRST BEFORE READING FURTHER***
So as we pulled up to the Keller household, Kyle’s dad was in the driveway carrying his guitar. He was pretending to get into the car and then approached the driver window of the van. Everything he said sounded extremely urgent. He began to explain to us that there was this band that came to Dawson Creek, but there was a car accident. He mentioned something about a rental car and that it was very important that the band gets this guitar. The band was to be staying in The George Dawson Inn: room 208. We were instructed to leave the guitar on the bed.
You are probably all thinking, that story sounds kind of fishy. Well, it seemed legitimate at the time and I never really thought about it to ask questions.
Kyle: that is because I did a stellar-keller job of making sure she thought I hadn’t called her parents and asked for permission, and that I hadn’t yet bought the ring – as we went ring shopping earlier that day.)
Meg: Let me tell the story! As we pulled out of the driveway, Kyle asked, “Do you want to come? You don’t have to.” I replied as he expected, “Oh no, I’ll come. That’s fine.” So off we went. Driving down the streets of Dawson Creek, we headed towards the George Dawson Inn. As we were driving, Kyle said, “I think I’m going to have to use the bathroom when we get there.”
Kyle: It was part of the plan. I didn’t actually use it.
Meg: I thought, “That would be weird!” We arrived.
We took the elevator to the second floor and arrived at room 208. Nobody was supposed to be in the apartment; we opened the door. Much to my surprise, the lights were on in the room! I was startled and jumped back and then knocked as I said, “Hello?!” Kyle reassured me that it was okay and to go in.
As we walked into the room, I was shocked to find long-stem roses and petals everywhere! I thought to myself, “HOLY CRAP! THIS IS AWKWARD! We just walked into someone’s ‘romantic suite’!” Although I was feeling completely weird, Kyle puts the guitar on the bed and takes off his coat. I said, “You’re taking off your coat to use the bathroom?!” I felt so weird and wanted to vacate the scene ASAP! As I kept looking around the room, I saw my computer sitting on the table…this is where I began to get confused. As I walked a little further, there was a large bouquet of about 30 red and white roses, a giant framed picture of my sweetheart and I, and another of just me. There was a bottle of champagne, some candles, two champagne glasses, and some sparkling cocktail juice for me in case I didn’t want to drink champagne.
I looked over at Kyle in bewilderment, and he spoke softly, “I just wanted to have a quiet evening with you away from the busy house. We have it for just a few hours.” (Kyle’s whole family was at home, including a playful three-year old. Quiet time was something that did not exist.) I thought awww, isn’t that nice! So we sat on one of the beds and Kyle pulled out the guitar we’d brought along. He then began to sing me a song: I Will Be There, by Steven Curtis Chapman. It was so beautiful. I love listening to him sing.
I’m still thinking to myself, “This is such a wonderful day…nothing more, nothing less.” The reason I did not suspect anything was because for the previous month, Kyle had been mentioning how nervous he was to talk to my dad about proposing and I knew that he would never ask me unless he’d spoke with my dad first. I had no reason to suspect that he’d asked already because my parents were in Australia and would not be home until later that night and I knew he wanted to ask in person.
After he finished serenading me, he gave me a big hug and then stared into my eyes. He told me that he loved me and would love me forever. Just then, I looked down and saw he was holding a ring box! I lost my breath and took a huge gasp as Kyle said the words I only dreamed of until that moment, “Megan, Will You Marry Me?” I SAID YES!! OF COURSE!!!
Next, Kyle pulled out the computer and we watched a movie he made of us. There were pictures of us and the video ended by saying “Did you say yes??” We just sat there, so excited, staring into each other’s eyes for the longest time trying to comprehend the event that just occurred.
After, we thought about different moments throughout the day that could have hinted toward tonight’s event. At one point, I tried to reach into his pocket to put my debit card in his vest, and he jumped like I’ve never seen before and replied, “Whoa! You scared me!” Apparently, that was where the ring was. Then I remembered what he said just before we pulled away from the house, “You don’t have to come with me if you don’t want to.” I asked him, “What would you have done if I said no?” He replied, “I knew you’d come with me. You always want to be where I am.” He’s right.
After talking for a while we cleaned up the room and gathered all the roses and took the champagne back to the future-in-laws as they were all anticipating our return – they were all in on the event. It was by far the most incredible day of my whole entire life. I think I can boldly say the same for Kyle too. However, it will not be our last. We have many, many more happy days to come (not to mention August 4th, 2007…our wedding day!!)
